Spreading Kindness: OMISTA Credit Union Shines in the Pay It Forward Initiative
At OMISTA Credit Union, we believe in the power of community and the impact of small acts of kindness. This December, our dedication to uplifting those around us was highlighted in an article by the Times and Transcript, showcasing the involvement of Atlantic Credit Unions in our Pay It Forward initiative.
As part of this heartwarming program, credit unions across Atlantic Canada have collectively injected around $100,000 back into our local economies. Each employee and board member received $25 to use for acts of kindness within their communities, demonstrating our commitment to supporting local individuals, families, and charities.
OMISTA Marketing Specialist Karen Markovich-Bailey exemplified this spirit by purchasing a gift card to Moncton-based Cafe Codiac and giving it to a stranger on Main Street during the staff Christmas party. Her gesture surprised the recipient and encouraged them to "pay it forward" in return.
"We're focused on local individuals and making a difference right here in our community, not distant shareholders," Karen expressed during her interview. "It's a wonderful feeling to find creative ways to bring joy to others while supporting local businesses."
The $100,000 investment by credit unions throughout Atlantic Canada highlights our commitment to fostering meaningful connections and reinforcing the strength of our local economy. Each Credit Union had the option to match funds. At OMISTA we embraced this as a way to increased our collective impact.
As we continue to celebrate the holiday season, we encourage everyone to find ways to share kindness. To read the full article featuring our efforts and maybe you will be inspired to#CUPayItForward
